So, I created a new blog for the house after my coworker, Michael, convinced me it was a good idea. I already have one and the house blog made #2. Now, that the house is complete I really dont have a need for two blogs. So, I’m saying goodbye to this one. I have imported all of these posts to my old blog. So, from now on please go here to see my posts. Hope you are all having a great week!

We’re home!

We finally have a house! And it’s officially ours…well in 30 years, but who is counting?? We closed on Friday and moved in Saturday! It was a rough weekend filled w/ excitement and sore muscles, but we are now in our new home and we LOVE it! I still think I am playing house and will have to go pack to the tiny apartment sometime soon. The house is still in total chaos, but as you can tell we have internet and cable, so we are good to go for a while. We are getting some furniture delivered this weekend and once it arrives I will post some more pictures. I hope you are all doing great! Thank you all for your comments and support! I think I finally feel like an adult…

It’s almost done!

The house is now pretty much finished. They have a few last minute updates, but almost everything is complete! And…we love it! It is so beautiful! It’s so much better than we expected. We can’t wait to move in and make it our own. Below are the pictures! For more pictures of the house click on one of the pictures below and it will take you to the entire album! I can’t wait until MOVING day!!!

Isn’t it beautiful!

The light fixtures are the newest addition to the house. We have been pleasantly suprised, especially with the ceiling fans..they installed one in the living room and one in the Master bedroom. I have posted some pics of the light fixtures and the newly grated front yard. We probably wont go out to the house again until we get back from our vacation which will be Setember 9th. So the next round of pictures should show a lot more improvements! In other news, we bought a couch today and I LOVE IT!!! Hope you are all doing great! I will also be posting vacation pictures on the other website as soon as we get back. Hope you all have a great week and Labor Day! God Bless!

Countertops-sorta?

Today they installed the countertops. Matt made me promise we wouldnt go back for a couple of days after last night, but when the builder told me they were installing countertops I had to go! When we got to the house I was excited to see the finished product of the tile as well, but it was completely covered w/ paper. Oh well, I thought, at least I get to see the countertops…nope…that was also covered in brwon paper. There were a few places where we could see the countertops and those parts looked great, but it was disappointing not to be able to see everything together. But, what we saw we loved! Below are a couple of pics.

TILE!!!!

They almost finished tiling the house! We went this evening around 7 and two guys were there finishing it up! They layed almost all the tile and just had to grout most of the kitchen/family room area. The tile and grout look great together. I couldnt take as many pics as I wanted but I took a few.

Foyer – the color is kinda hard to see in this picture

Master bath – it looks pretty good w. the cabinet color

We have cabinets!

I went to the house today and quite a bit of progress has been made. We have cabinets, the house has been painted and they started tiling!!! They should be finished w/ the tiling tomorrow and I plan on going out there to take pics of the finished product. To tide you over I have posted pics the builder took of the cabinets. The tile looked really good so we are super excited to see the finished product!!!

We have a driveway!!

The progress is continuing at the house.  The bricking has been completed as has drywalling, installing the doors, and the trim work.  Painting and installing the cabinets are the next step!  The salesman told us on Saturday he thinks we could close as early as September 25th!  I asked him if we could close on September 23rd, which is my birthday!  That would be the best birthday present ever- A HOUSE!!!  I posted a few pictures below.  Hope you are all doing well!

Completely bricked!

They have started bricking the house!!! and the drywall is almost finished!!! We are starting to get a feel for the space and can really see the size of each room. We had no idea they would be as far as they have since Tuesday. On Tuesday we had our pre-drywall meeting and discussed the issues I wrote about in my last blog. We talked to the sales guys and after arguing on the phone, I finally got my way…see persistence pays off! So, the house is still ours and the amount we agreed to pay was something Matt and I felt was fair. On Tuesday the builder said he thought the house would be finished at the end of September, which is AWESOME! I took a lot of pictures of the house and below are some of the highlights!

Problem??

So until last week things have been going great with the house. Everything seems to be right on schedule and Matt and I are super excited about the house. Then I get an unexpected phone call…Our sales guy wants us to give them $5k because of our flooring change request. He caught us completely off guard and we had no idea they expected us to give them more money.  When we initially signed the paperwork he explained that any changes that could lower the value of the house or make it harder for them to sell if we walked would require additional money. We had no idea tile and wood flooring was something that could “make the house harder to sell”. So, now Matt and I are at a loss. We wouldnt mind giving them the money if we could get it back if something bad happened like one of us losing our job, but I’m pretty sure they wont put that in writing. Have any of you that built a house had to do this?? Everyone I have talked to so far said they didnt have to give the builder any money until closing. If anyone has any advice I’m all ears. We have the pre-drywall meeting on Tuesday, so I’m sure we will find out how this will play out then. Since the market is a buyer’s market we are planning on holding out and not giving them any money. We’ll see how that goes over. I took a few pictures today and the house should really start coming together soon. Hopefully it will still be our house! Hope you are all well!!

Bricking and drywall should begin soon!
